The New York Times: Indians Count on an Old Friend's Appeal

The New York Times food writer Kim Severson wrote about Native American Natural Foods and its brand new product, the Tanka Bar, the very first week the product was launched. The story was published on the cover of the Dining In section.

Here are some excerpts from her story/review:

"Tanka" means "larger than life" in Lakota, and the makers of the little bar are thinking big -- like establishing a presence in every convenience store east and west of the Mississippi. With its slick marketing plan, reservation roots and list of healthy ingredients, the Tanka bar could be the first national break-out product made on a reservation. ...

"The bumpy, dark bars are better than one might expect from a packaged meat snack. The buffalo is slightly smoky and softer than jerky, and the sweet-tart flavor of the cranberries plays off a light touch of garlic and onion."
